 4. PROMOTION OF SCIENTIFIC AGRICULTURE:

a) Cereal & Fodder Demonstration :The main aim of the program is to disseminate the scientific technology to the farmers by laying out scientific demonstration on different crops both Kharif and Rabi season. Under this programme a Demonstration of 0.5 hect. With 100% subsidy on P & K & other Inputs in each season is laid out on Cereals crops. Whereas 0.4 hect. With 100% subsidy on Fertil & Inputs for Fodder crops is provided. The Cereal Demonstration have been proposed in each Circle whereas the Fodder demonstration have been proposed one in each Agriculture zone.  5 .Saffron Demonstration :

Saffron Cultivation is making its inroad in the Udhampur District; the cultivation of Saffron has been taken in Udhampur District during 2008-09 on experimental basis to ascertain its success rate as potential crop. The five trials of ½ Marla each have been conducted different locations of the district under temperate and Semi temperate region where the snowfall is experienced. The trails of Saffron were successful in nontraditional areas of the district and proved beyond doubt  that the Saffron Cultivation is possible and successful in the District and can be taken up for cultivation the year-wise data of Saffron flower production for the year, 2010-11 , 2011-12 , 2012-13, 2013-14 & 2014-15 bare depicted as under :

            The cultivation of saffron is liable to catch up its pace in the years to come and will enable the farmers to enhance their income and making her Udhampur District famous 

            Saffron Cultivation.

 

6.SOIL TESTING:    To inculcate the habit of using balance doze of fertilizer and to increase the production, the Soil Testing Services are extended to the farmers free of cost through the Mobile Soil Testing Van and statistic Soil Testing Laboratory, Udhampur through collection by the Extension agency and self collection of Laboratory staff of the Department. Soil Health Cards containing complete information about fertility status of fields of farmers are being issued to the individual beneficiary as permanent record. 7. Information and Publicity & Soil Conservation::

In order to educate/highlight the development activities and  create the sense of healthy competition among the farmers, Agriculture exhibitions are organized at Basakhi Mela at Devak (Udhampur), Sudhmahadev Mela(Chenani), Shankri Devta Mela and Mongri Mela in Panchari Blocks)  every year  and at other places as per the instructions of the District Administration. In addition to above famous Exhibition cum vegetable show organized at village Bhast (Chenani) under RKVY Scheme during the month of Oct’2014. A Farmer Training Programme within District were also organized under ATMA-CSS Schemes.The Soil Conservation works are done to preserve the moisture in the soil and protect the productive land from different type of soil erosion and to maintain good soil health. Besides this, it helps in increasing the crop productivity, Recharge ground water, maintain ecological balance, and meet the fuel and fodder requirement. 8. CONSTRUCTION OF COLD STORE

             As per decision of DDB in the meeting held on 8-10-2003, the construction of 250 MT Departmental Cold Store at Dharamthal in Chenani Block in Udhampur District has been taken up by the PWD Department at the original AAA cost of Rs 110.00 Lacs and the case sent to Administrative Department for accord of AAA sanction. Pending accord of AAA, the construction was started by the PWD. Due to cost escalation in the market rates of material  and labour etc; the AAA revised to the tune of Rs 191.90 lacs out of which 157.90 lacs was provisioned for Civil works and Rs 34.00 lacs for Plant & Machinery on notional basis.

        A Four storied Cold Storage building has been completed, Office accommodation comprising of Office room, Machine Room and Guard Room with stair has also been completed and flooring/painting work and C/wall in progress for which an amount of Rs 170.15 lacs has been spent by the PWD upto 3/2011.                          After that, the Mechanical Engineering Department has projected the requirement of Rs 158.00  lacs for installation of HFC plant based on air cooling system. The said amount is required to be provided to Mechanical Engineering Department for completion of the Cold store during this year to meet the demand of the farming community.

                        The building was handed over to the J&K Agro. Industries Development Corporation Limited on 12th of Oct. 2013, vide  Agriculture production Department’s order No. 242-Agri. Of 2013 dated : 30-07-2013 for completion of remaining component of works & for optimal utilization.
