Municipality Udhampur

About Us

The Udhampur Town Area Committee was established 27th of July 1934 (earlier) and converted into Municipal Council Udhampur in the year 2005 for providing the services to the general public and worked under the control of Directorate of Urban Local Bodies Jammu headed by the Housing & Urban Development department.

As per the J&K Municipal Act 2000, the Municipal Council/Committee is mandated to perform the following duties:
i.   Preparation of plans for economic development and social justice.
ii.  Performance of functions and implementation of the schemes, which may be entrusted to them including following:

1. Urban Planning including town planning.
2. Regulation of land – use and construction of Buildings.
3. Public Heath, Sanitation, Conservancy and Solid Waste Management.
4. Urban Forestry, Protection of Environment and promotion of ecological aspects.
5 Slum improvement and up-gradation.
6. Provisions of Urban amenities and facilities such as parks, play grounds and gardens.
7. Burials and burial grounds, cremation and cremational grounds.
8.  Cattle ponds and prevention of cruelty to animals.
9.. Urban poverty alleviation.
11. Vital Statistics including registration of Births, Deaths.
12. Planning for economic and social development.
13. Regulation of slaughter houses and tanneries.
14. Regulation of amenities including street lighting, parking lots, Bus stops and public conveniences.
