Training Program on Post Harvest Management / Fruit Processing held at Majalta:
Having committed to serve the Fruit & Vegetable growers/ entrepreneurs/ Cooperatives for their economic welfare, a ONE DAY TRAINING PROGRAM on POST-HARVEST MANAGEMENT was organised on 20th April-2022 at Panchayat Ghar Majalta by the department of Horticulture (Planning & Marketing) Udhampur in co-ordination with Dy. Registrar, Cooperative Societies (Agri) Udhampur. For equipping the beneficiaries with methods of fruits & vegetables processing, preservations, Dr. Neeraj Gupta, Assistant Professor Division of Food Sciences & Technology SKUAST Jammu was invited as a Training Resource Person who inculcated as to how the wastage of agri / horti produce can be checked and how value can be added to their produce by way of processing. About 15 members of a female cooperative and other stake holders participated and took technical know-how vis-à-vis adding value to the waste and c-grade fruits & vegetables, aiming to empower our progressive farmers transforming for an ATAMNIRBHAR BHARAT.
During the training program, Dr. Neeraj Gupta gave demonstration as to how Pickles/ Jams and Tomato Purie are made with active participation of the participants.
On the occasion, Dy. Registrar cooperatives Smt. Nishtha Nayyar (JKAS) impressed upon the participants to come forward not only for a change in their life style but to become self sufficient and self independence thereby doubling their agriculture income.
Area Marketing Officer Udhampur-Reasi Sh. Ashwani Kumar Sharma delibrated upon the beneficiary participants to establish processing units in the area under PM FME –ODOP scheme as there is an immense scope and potential for. Sh. Kamal Kishor, Gr/ Marketing Inspector disclosed as to how value can be added by adopting to labelling & modern packaging which attracts the consumers. He further sensitized for an organic and integrated farming with raising exotic vegetables & fruits for remunerative earnings.
Sh. Ram Singh, Sarpanch Majalta with Panches thanked the duo departments for such a practical training session in the area for the 1st time and applauded the initiatives as “Best One”.
On concluding the program, participants were awadred with “Participation Certificates” through Sarpanch Majalta accompanied by Dy. Registrar Udhampur & Area Marketing Officer Udhampur-Reasi.
